Raymond Louis Nemecek, age 100, of West, passed away early Tuesday afternoon, July 5, 2011 at West Rest Haven in West. A rosary will be recited and Mass of Christian Burial celebrated 10:00 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West, with the Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrant. Military Graveside Rites will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, conducted by West V.F.W. Post 4819. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel. Mr. Nemecek was born June 22, 1911 in West, the son of Ernest and Frances (Karlik) Nemecek. He attended St. Mary's school and graduated from West High School, where he played football. He served his country with the United States Navy during World War II. On July 15, 1935 he was united in marriage to Lillian Martha Cervenka in West. She preceded him in death on August 14, 2004. Raymond was co-owner of Nemecek Brothers Meat Market in West for over 50 years until his retirement in 1989. He enjoyed raising cattle, riding horses, hunting, and visiting and joking with friends. He was a lifelong and faithful member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption. He was also a member of West Volunteer Fire Department, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 4819, American Legion Post No. 478, West Knights of Columbus Council No. 2305, Texas/Oklahoma Meat Packers Association. Raymond served as an associate director of Westfest, was a founding member of the West Longhorn Club, a director of the Heart of Texas Fair and Rodeo Association, and a director of PointWest Bank. Raymond is preceded in death by his parents; a son, Tim Nemecek; two brothers, Edward Nemecek and John Nemecek; and three sisters, Christine Hruska, Agnes Kubala, and Marie Jerabek. Survivors include a brother-in-law, Robert Cervenka and wife Lucille of Waco; a sister-in-law, Carolyn Cervenka of Dallas; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers are Russ Willsey, Ed Sykora, Charles Nemec, Robert Zahirniak, Ted Uptmore, Emanuel Mitchell, Jim Greene, and Richard Hlavenka. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the West Volunteer Fire Department or to the West Volunteer Ambulance Association.
