Raymond Kapczynski, age 70, of West, passed away early Thursday morning, November 20, 2008 at Wesley Woods Center in Waco. A rosary will be recited 4:00 p.m. Saturday at Aderhold Funeral Home by Deacon Buddy Shieldes, followed by a visitation until 6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 2:00 p.m. Sunday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West, with Rev. Ed Karasek and Rev. Vincent Chacko as celebrants. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. Ray was born on July 13, 1938 in West, the son of Vincent and Annie (Soukup) Kapczynski. He graduated from St. Mary's School and West High School in 1956. He then graduated from Navarro Junior College and the University of Texas in Austin, where he received his degree in Pharmacy. On June 4, 1966, he was united in marriage to Georgia Anita Kozlovsky in West. He worked as a pharmacist for Old Corner Drug in West for several years, Franklin Fee Pharmacy, Royal Pharmacy, Revco Pharmacy, Eckerd's Pharmacy, C.V.S., and Target, all in Waco before retiring in 2006. Raymond loved making floral arrangements and worked in a business from home known as Floral Arts doing arrangements for weddings and celebrations. He enjoyed sports, reading, working crossword puzzles, was an avid Longhorn fan, and especially spending time with his family. He was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption where he served as a Eucharistic Minister, Lector, and led the choir at the 10:30 a.m. Mass of Sunday's. He was also a member of the Texas Ex's, P.T.A. at St. Mary's and West High School, Texas Pharmacy Association, and St. Anne's Altar Society. He is preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Faith Vasicek; an infant sister, Cecilia Kapczynski; and in-laws, Joe Kozlovsky and John Fall. Survivors include his beloved wife of 42 years, Georgia Kapczynski of West; two daughters, Diane Schuetze and husband Kenneth of McGregor and Denise Vasicek and husband Cliff of Hutto; three brothers, Vincent "Copper" Kapczynski and his wife Nona Jean of Houston, Roman Kapczynski and his wife Laverne of Athens, GA, and Ben Kapczynski and his wife Jeanne of West; one sister, Annie Vrba and her husband Ermin of Sherman; four grandchildren, Kimberly and Colin Schuetze and Nicole and Sarah Vasicek; his mother-in-law, Albina Kozlovsky of McGregor; in-laws, Jo & William Kozlovsky of Itasca, Barbara & Charles Phipps of Ennis, Betty & Gilbert Hrna of Round Rock, and Janey Fall of McGregor; grand dogs, Blue and several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Active pallbearers are Tony Vrba, Vincent F. Kapczynski, Darrell Kapczynski, David Pierce, Scott Kapczynski, Tom Phipps, Harry Volcik, Doug Pierce, and Gary Dieterman. Honorary pallbearers are members of the West High School Class of 1956, his nieces and nephews, the Volcik Family, and the Pierce Family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mary's School Endowment Fund or to the Junior League of Waco Endowment Fund, 2600 Austin Ave., Waco, TX 76710.
