Raymond J. Zapalac

Raymond John Zapalac, age 85, of Barry, left this earth quietly during the afternoon of January 13, 2014 at Trisun Care Center in Corsicana. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West, with Rev. Uche Obikwelu as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. Mr. Zapalac was born August 15, 1928 in West, the son of Ludvik and Albina (Vanek). After attending Alligator School, Raymond enlisted in the United States Army and upon his discharge he returned home and began a lifelong career at General Motors in Arlington. After retiring, Raymond returned to his love of ranching and farming, settling down in Barry. His parents and a brother, Jerry Zapalac preceded him in death. Raymond is survived by his sister, Martha Dowdy of Irving; his brother, Luddie Zapalac of Garland; his sister, Mary Ann Adams and husband Jack Adams Jr. of The Colony; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Honorary Pallbearers include Raymond's six nephews, Jack Adams III, Allen Adams, Mark Zapalac, Wayne Zapalac, Van Dowdy and Marty Dowdy. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
