Polly Volcik

Pauline "Polly" (Kucera) Volcik, age 89, of West, passed away early Sunday morning, May 11, 2014 at the Atrium in Bellmead. A rosary will be recited 6:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel by Mary Jo Kaska, followed by visitation until 8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, with Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrant. Graveside services will be held 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Waco Memorial Park. Polly was born April 13, 1925 on Rogers Hill near West, the daughter of Frank and Albina (Zajicek) Kucera. She attended the old Alligator Creek School and schools in Hubbard. On October 15, 1945 she was united in marriage to Edwin V. Volcik in West. Edwin preceded her in death on March 3, 1994. Polly and Edwin owned and operated the Friendship Cafe, along with Adolph and Willie Mae Volcik, in West for over 30 years before retiring in 1980. She also worked in the dietary department for West Community Hospital and became a granny to Katy and Ryan Reddell, who she took care of for several years. Polly was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West. She was also a member of the Veterans Of Foreign Wars Post #4819 Ladies Auxiliary, the Catholic Daughters of America Court #829 and a volunteer at the hospital. Polly enjoyed playing dominoes, canning, listening to Czech music, dancing, riding around in the country and talking and visiting with everyone. She especially loved spending time with her family and friends. Polly is also preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Edwina Deiterman; infant daughters, Delores and Cecilia; a son-in-law, Erwin Janek; brothers, Wilson Kucera and Nick Kucera; and sisters, Delma Kaska and Estelle Foitek. Survivors include a son, Harry Volcik and wife Rose of Lacy Lakeview; three daughters, Jeanette Holecek and husband James of West, Vicki Janek of San Marcos, and Loretta "Poopsie" Volcik of West; a son-in-law, Daniel Deiterman; sisters, Frankye Mikeska and Betty Kaska and husband Louis; grandchildren, John Holecek and wife Tammie, Jason Holecek and wife Alisha, Travis Volcik and wife Lindsey, Alan Volcik and wife Kelli, Nicholas Deiterman and Amanda Janek; great grandchildren, Wyatt, Makenna, Brynlee, Caden, Alison, Kayla and Madison; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Active pallbearers are Travis Volcik, Alan Volcik, Jason Holecek, John Holecek, Ryan Reddell and Emanuel Mitchell. Honorary pallbearers are Amanda Janek, Katy Reddell, Hannah Uptmore, Laura Uptmore, Yvonne Reddell, Garrett Uptmore and all the nurses on A Hall at West Rest Haven. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the West Rest Haven Disaster Relief Fund.
