Sarah Paulene "Polly" Ewing, age 85, of West, passed away Tuesday evening, February 6, 2018 at West Rest Haven in West. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West, with Gary Wines officiating. Burial will follow at Gerald Cemetery near Leroy. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Polly was born November 18, 1932 in Leroy, the daughter of the late Herbert R. and Willie Ann (DeBrock) Taylor. She was a 1950 graduate of Bynum High School, prior to attending Baylor University. On December 12, 1953 she was united in marriage to Samuel G. Ewing, Jr. in Waco. They moved to Waco to start their family before moving to West in 1974. Polly was a homemaker and mother. She was very active in her children's activities including PTA officer, room mother, Cub Scout leader and officer of Northwestern Little League. Polly often cooked and fed players before ballgames and found special ways to serve the friends involved in her children's life. She loved crafts from making clothes for Barbie dolls to making clothes for her kids. Polly worked with ceramics, painted rocks and crocheted hats and house shoes. She enjoyed sewing, playing games with friends and family, going to flea markets and attending auctions. Polly loved being with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was a member of the Leroy Church where she enjoyed teaching Sunday School. Polly is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Sam; her daughter and son-in-law, Vicki and Chuck Cunningham; sisters, Vivian Taylor, Elizabeth Land and Susie Stewart; and a brother, Richard Taylor. Survivors include her children, Sam Ewing III and his wife Shelly of Akron, OH, Tina Varnadore and her husband Gary of Weatherford and Todd A. Ewing and wife Donna of Waco; sisters, Magdalene Morris, Ruth Harrell and Ida Wines and husband Gary; grandchildren, Valerie Wylie and husband Bud, Makenzi Jahanian and husband Nicholas, Adam Ewing and wife Gina, Jacob Ewing, Bryan Dulock Jr., Blake Ewing, Sarah Ewing, Grace Ewing, and Jonathan Ewing; great grandchildren, Bonnie, Ellie, Myers and Maggie; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Pallbearers are Richard Wines, David Wines, John Morris, Bryan Dulock, Chet Williams, Larry Clifton, Jacob Ewing, Adam Ewing, Nicholas Jahanian and Bud Wylie. Memorials may be made to the Leroy Church Building Fund.
