Phyllis Ann Gerik, age 60, of Waco, passed away late Thursday afternoon, April 4, 2013 at Scott & White Hospital in Temple. Memorial Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West, with Elder Sharon Miller officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. Memorial Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Phyllis was born February 4, 1953 in Waco, the daughter of Edwin E. and Dolores Ann (Karlik) Gerik. In 1971 she graduated from Reicher High School in Waco. She attended McLennan Community College and Baylor University as well. Phyllis worked for the Texas Workforce Commission in Waco as a Tax Auditor for 18 years, until her retirement in 1996. She enjoyed bargain hunting, flower arranging, crafts, collecting coins and nutcrackers, watching Astros baseball, and was always planning parties. Phyllis was also an avid University of Texas fan. She especially loved spending time with her family. Phyllis is preceded in death by her father, Edwin E. Gerik. Survivors include her mother, Dolores Gerik of Waco; two daughters, Melanie Fordyce and husband Jerry of Houston and Leslie Nelson and husband Mark of Austin; grandchildren, Emma Leslie and James Edwin "Jed" Fordyce; and many other relatives and friends. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or to the charity of your choice. To honor Phyllis' love of coin collecting, please bring a commemorative quarter to the memorial visitation or service.
