Peggy Frances Walker Garrett, age 83, of Gholson, passed away Thursday morning, June 1, 2017 at Providence Hospice Place in Waco. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 5, 2017 at the First Baptist Church in Gholson, with Rev. James Stevens officiating. Burial will follow at Gholson Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday at Aderhold Funeral Home in West. Peggy was born November 21, 1933 in Gholson, the daughter of James M. and Gerdie Mae (Welch) Headen. She attended school in Gholson and was a graduate of West High School. On August 12, 1951 she was united in marriage to Ray Walker in Gholson. Ray preceded her in death on December 31, 2005. Peggy was then united in marriage to John Garrett on January 21, 2007 in Gholson. She was a Mother and homemaker. Peggy was a lifelong and faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Gholson where she played the piano, sang in the choir and taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. Peggy enjoyed China painting, quilting, tending to her flower garden, baking and going on trips to Cleburne with John. She was known for her delicious chicken and dumplings. Peggy was a member of the First Tuesday and Birthday Club and was an avid Lady Bears Fan. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandsons. Peggy is also preceded in death by her parents and brothers, James, C.R. "Dick" and Fred "Doyle" Headen. Survivors include her husband of 10 years, John Garrett of Gholson; a son, David Walker and wife Glenna of Gholson; a stepson, Johnny Garrett and wife Karen of Gholson; grandchildren, Andrew Walker, Ben Walker, Colin Walker and wife Carla, Donna Walter and husband Dennis and Sharon Franklin; great grandchildren, Tanner, Brayden, Aubrey, Addison, Leslie, Katie, Emily, Ashlynn, Garrett and Parker; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Active pallbearers are Andrew Walker, Colin Walker, Joe Stephenson, Randall Ballew, Steven Vaughn and Mike Dulas. Honorary pallbearers are the First Baptist Church of Gholson Deacons. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Gholson.
