Nita Gerik, age 91, of West, passed away late Monday evening, December 26, 2016 with her family by her side. A rosary will be recited 6:00 p.m. Thursday at the Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel, with visitation to follow until 8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 30, 2016 at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, with Rev. Ed Karasek and Rev. Paul Hudson as celebrants. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. Nita was born March 23, 1925 in Silerton, TN the daughter of Oather and Erlby (Burton) McPherson. She attended grade school in Silerton and was a graduate of Boliver High School, before receiving an associate's degree from Jackson Business College in Jackson, TN. She served her country with the Women's Army Corp during World War II. On May 3, 1948 she was united in marriage to Alfred E. "Freddy" Gerik in Dallas. Freddy preceded her in death on September 18, 2010. Nita and Freddy owned F.G. Gerik & Son Appliance Store in West for over 50 years before retiring in 1986. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption. Nita was also a former director of Westfest for over 30 years. She was also a member of the McLennan/Hill Czech Heritage Society and Catholic Daughters of America Court #829. Nita was President of the Central Texas Firemen's and Fire Marshall's Ladies Auxiliary in 1994, she then was granted the honor of Auxiliary Member of the Year in 2007. Nita enjoyed cooking, baking, traveling and gardening. She especially loved taking care of her family, community and others. Nita was also preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Cyndy (Gerik) Angelo; a brother, L.L. "Pete" McPherson; and a sister, Carol Nevins. Survivors include her children, Glenda Keyes of Odenton, MD, Jimmy Gerik and wife Cindy of Dallas, Amy Quaid and husband Tommy of Carrollton, Steven Gerik and wife Melanie of Carrollton; sisters, Earline Russo, Theda Cherry and Bettye Sargeant and husband Jack; a sister-in-law, Jean McPherson; grandchildren, Brittany Angelo Deatrich and husband Aaron, Tyler Angelo, Haley Gerik, Nicholas Gerik, Gabriel Gerik, Tyler Clayton and wife Lauren Amos, and Chelsea Bell and husband Jason; great grandchildren, Elly Ann, Edie and John Raymond; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers are Buddy Gerik, Tommy Gerik, Phil Gerik, Michael Gerik, Frank Kubacak, Tommy Prikryl, Donald Milberger and Phil Cherry. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to West Volunteer Fire Department, Czech Heritage Society, West Senior Citizen Center or St. Mary's School Wish List.
