Nicholas Van Pelt

Nicholas James Van Pelt, age 16, of West, passed away Friday morning, June 10, 2005 in Waco as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. A rosary will be recited 6:00 p.m. Sunday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West by Rev. Vincent Chacko, IMS. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption with Rev. Ed Karasek and Rev. Vincent Chacko, IMS as celebrants. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery near West. Nicholas was born March 27, 1989 in Lubbock to Douglas James Van Pelt and Marsha (Popp) Green. He attended schools at St. Louis Catholic School in Waco and West Middle School. He was entering his Junior year at West High School where he was a UIL Debator, member of the Spanish Club, Key Club and had just received the sophomore class honors History Award. He was a member of Boy Scout Troop No. 494 and became an Eagle Scout in January. He loved playing football, tennis, golf, spending time with his sisters, camping with the scouts and enjoyed reading as a hobby. Nicholas loved attending longhorn cattle auctions and hunting with his father and uncle. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West where he served as an altar server and was to be confirmed in the church on Sunday June 12th. Survivors include his father, Douglas Van Pelt of Beaumont; his mother, Marsha and step-father, Tommy Green of West; twin sister, Marie Van Pelt, sisters, Christine Van Pelt and Janelle Green, all of West; grandparents, Leo and Billie Popp of Waco, Corrian and Charlie Bock of Wharton, James and Mary Van Pelt of Hallettsville and Rick and Lucille Isom of Reno, Nevada; numerous aunts and uncles, including Jeff and Yvonne Reddell of West and many cousins and friends. Active pallbearers will be Mark Popp, Bruce Popp, Craig Popp, Jeff Reddell, Jeff Van Pelt, Mike Van Pelt and Clay Van Pelt. Honorary pallbearers will be the Class of 2007 and Boy Scout Troop 494. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Nicholas Van Pelt Scholarship Fund at West High School, c/o Aderhold Funeral Home, P.O. Box 423, West, TX 76691.
