Nell Nelson, age 90, of West, passed away late Saturday afternoon, November 30, 2019 at Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest Hospital in Waco. Memorial Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 4, 2019 at the First Baptist Church in West, with Dr. John Crowder officiating. The family will receive visitors Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the church. Nell was born November 26, 1929 in Menlow, the daughter of Charles and Mary (Reed) Donohue. She attended the old Treadwell Elementary School in Menlow and West Elementary in West before graduating from Abbott High School in 1948, where she played on the basketball team. On June 6, 1948 she was united in marriage to Bill Nelson in West. Bill preceded her in death on November 2, 2008. Nell was a member of the First Baptist Church of West. She was a teachers aide and a past president of the PTA at A.M. Pate Elementary School in Ft. Worth. Nell was a co-owner of the Paraphernalia Antique Shop in Ft. Worth with her cousin, Wanda White. She had a touch for selling antiques and organizing estate sales and also worked for Diane Friend at the Olde Czech Corner Antiques Shop in West. Nell enjoyed traveling with Bill, keeping a clean house, taking care of others and watching westerns, especially "Walker Texas Ranger". She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Nell is also preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Charles W. "Red" Donohue; and a niece, Debbie Donohue. Survivors include her son, Mike Nelson and wife Debbie of West; her daughter, Carrie Verkuil of Ft. Worth; her beloved granddaughters, Anna Wines and husband David, Erinn Chenevert and husband Chris, Kelly Nelson, and Carrah Nelson; her great grandchildren, Luke and Shelby Wines; a niece, Donna Vanek; and many other relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Children's Ministry or West Volunteer Ambulance Association. The family would like to give a special "thank you" to the nurses and staff in the Memory Care Unit of West Rest Haven and Mike Reed of the West EMS.
