I would like to start by expressing my heartfelt thanks for everyone in the West community. It is so nice to live in a place where everyone wants to help. We would like to thank lots of people. I hope I don't miss anyone. From those who stayed during the day, those whom she worked with, the doctors who made her pain bearable through the last months: Dr. Speckmiear, Kosarek, Salinas, Meyers and McCoy, Dr. Lowder, Missy and Lisa, her friends Cindy Snokhous, Jana Snokhous, Paula Cernosek, Paula Kapavik, Missy Lowder, Katherine Maler, Marcia Croll, Donna Estes and Dawn Sykora. And last, but not least, her sister Cindy who through this ordeal was still taking care of their mom and dad, Victor and Mary Ann, while getting ready for her own daughter's wedding. Thanks to our neighbors Kevin and April King for taking such good care of Nancy's dogs and cats and Gary and JoAnn Kreder for watching our house while we were out of town for the last year. Thanks to our CTIW family for giving me the last year to share with Nancy. Thanks to Mr. Harwell, Roy Eaton for the visits and our final ride home from Houston, Charlene for making life for me a little easier and Curtis for steaks and Roadhouse. For all who knew Nancy, I think she and I were made for each other. We neither one liked to lose. Nancy loved to dance and so did I. We actually met at a dance. Later on we entered a dance contest and we won. Nancy loved Czech music. She and her sister sang in their Grandpa's band. Nancy was smart. She was valedictorian of her graduating class. We always joked because Nancy was valedictorian, her sister was valedictorian, and our brother-in-law Mark was valedictorian, then there was me. When our son Stephen came along, he was salutatorian, and then there was Greg. Well, too much of my DNA I guess. I took up running when the boys started playing sports, so Nancy took up running also and again she won races. This is where she met some of her best friends Jana Snokhous and Cindy Snokhous. They hardly ever missed a day of running or working out. Nancy, Jana and Cindy ran the Ft. Worth Marathon Relay and came in 3rd place. Nancy ran half marathons, 13 miles, in Austin, Houston, and Dallas. Jana and Nancy ran the streets of West every day until the day before her first surgery. Nancy liked going to Shreveport to gamble. The last trip we made was in July or August and two of our friends, Mark and Donna Estes, flew us to Louisiana in Mark's plane. It made the trip a lot easier and much faster. We always joked about our friends Albert and Mary Miller. Mary said Albert could make a roll of nickels last all day. What makes it really funny is that Nancy loved to play the penny slots. Nancy loved to cook. She was Grand Champion at Westfest 3 years with her buchtas. She has now passed this recipe down to her neice Katie. Katie will be entering this year's Westfest. She also liked a margarita and some wine. Donna and Nancy were always trying new drinks. Nancy and Jana liked to try new wines. They never saved the cork because they said they didn't re-cork. Her cousin Betty Mynar was always bringing a new wine so she changed her favorite wine every time Betty showed up. Nancy was always out-numbered in our house. She had to raise three boys: Stephen, Greg, and myself. She never complained once. She was so happy when the boys started getting married. Along came Tawny and Stacey and granddaughters Kaylyn and Tatum. We kind of adopted our neighbor Vicky Herrera who would spend lots time with Nancy. She said that she finally had us outnumbered. She liked to tell the story of when she took Stacey and Vicky to Canton to shop. They had been there only an hour and Stacey and Vicky were already tired. She loved Stacey, Tawny and Vicky as though they were daughters. We stood around Nancy on the last days and voted that Stacey would now be in charge. Now Stacey is "mom" to the whole family. Nancy finished with a 3.98 GPA at MCC and a degree in medical transcription which started her career of working for the rest of her life for the best doctors in Waco: Waco Cardiologists Drs. Shoultz, Falcone, Brown, Pitts, Attas and Lundeen. She took a break to stay home to raise Stephen and Greg, then went to work for the best family medicine doctors in Waco: Drs. Speckmiear, Kosarek, Salinas, and became good friends with Dr. Meyers and McCoy. From there she went to work for the best surgeon in Waco, Dr. Lowder. On Wednesday night Nancy and I had our last conversation while watching the weather. She told me she was going to bring us some snow. Believe it or not, but as we left the cemetery, on Sunday it began to snow. So now when yall see snow always remember Nancy. Thanks again for everything the West Community has done for the Pavlas and Kasberg families. Michael A. Kasberg
