Myra Traylor

November 24, 1916 — March 4, 2006

Myra (Shieldes) Traylor 89, of West, passed away Saturday, March 4, 2006 at St. Catherine Center in Waco. Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Aderhold Funeral Home in West, with Rev. Ann Hitt officiating. Burial will be held at Hillcrest Cemetery in Temple. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Mrs. Traylor was born on November 24, 1916 in Coleman, the daughter of Howard and Myrtle (Starnes) Payne. She attended school in Bruceville Eddy and in 1933 was united in marriage to Robert George Shieldes. He preceded her in death on December 24, 1988. She married Jack Thomas Traylor on May 5, 1973. He preceded her in death on April 16, 1990. Myra was a cosmetologist and was owner of Myra's Beauty Shop and was instructor of cosmetology at Bud Hall's Beauty School in Waco and Wichita Falls. She also managed S & L Salons in Wichita Falls, Waco, Lubbock, and Shreveport, LA. She was also the director for the West Senior Citizen Center for several years. She was very artistic and was known for her acrylic paintings and decorative art had a special love for the pet dogs in her life. She was active in PTA, where she served as president when her children were young. Jack and Myra attended First Baptist Church of West for many years. She was currently a member of First United Methodist Church in West. She is also preceded in death by one brother, Carlos Payne and one sister, Vera Rountree. Survivors include one son, Buddy Shieldes and his wife Dolores of West; her daughter, Selah Popp and her husband Calvin of Waco; one sister, Laverne Herrington and her husband Johnie of Moody; ten grandchildren, Ann Massey and her husband Larry, Robby Shieldes, Stephen Shieldes and his wife Krista, Amanda Sorenson and her husband Eric, Eric Hudson and his wife Kelli, Dr. David Popp and his wife Lani, Melissa Popp, Michael Popp, Mark Popp and his wife Gwen, and Christopher Popp and his wife Sandy; eighteen great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Memorials may be made to West Ambulance Association, First United Methodist Church of West, or to St. Mary's Parish Center.
