Monroe J. Lander, age 89, of West, passed away early Tuesday morning, November 9, 2010 in Waco. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Aderhold Funeral Home in West, with Pastor Frances Sidenblad officiating. Burial will follow at Gerald Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Monroe was born on August 30, 1921 in Leroy, the son of Henry and Annie (Otto) Lander. He attended several in the Hill and McLennan county area. On March 17, 1949, he was united in marriage to Mary (Volpert) Lander in Gerald. Monroe was a farmer most of his life and worked for Lacy Feed and L. L. Sams. He also worked for West Flour Mill and Jupe Mills until his retirement in 2006. He was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ and SPJST Lodge #6. Monroe enjoyed spending time outdoors, doing yard work, gardening, and playing dominoes. He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Katie Drews. Survivors include his beloved wife of 61 years, Mary A. Lander of West; one brother, Lonnie Lander and wife Barbara of Wichita Falls; one sister, Josie Lehmann of Hillsboro; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Pallbearers will be Eddie Ray Lehmann, Garry Lee Drews, Ronnie Kruger, Glen Vigus, Michael Lander, and Michael Otto. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul's United Church of Christ or Gerald Cemetery.
