Mildred (Pratka) Stanislav earned her angel’s wings on May 16, 2021 in West, just 3 weeks shy of her 94th birthday surrounded by her family. Rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 19, 2021 at St. Mary’s Church of the Assumption in West. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:15 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with Rev. Timothy Vaverek as celebrant. Burial will ensue at St. Mary’s Cemetery near West. Mildred was born June 9, 1927 in Penelope to VJ and Anna (Pribyla) Pratka and grew up on the family farm in West. She attended West schools. Mildred met Joe R. Stanislav at a dance and they were married on July 7, 1947. Jodie and Mildred loved to dance, especially polka, and were well known for leading wedding marches for decades. She was a homemaker for 15 years before going to work in the cafeteria at Reicher Catholic High School where she worked for more than 15 years. Joe and Mildred were founding members of St. Louis Catholic Church where they were faithful for over 50 years. After Joe’s retirement she co-piloted thousands of miles in their RV “rig” and were fixtures at their grandchildren’s activities and events. “Grandma Joe” spent her life loving (worrying about) her family and friends. Anyone on her call list can attest to this. She was welcomed to heaven by her husband of 67 years and her parents. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Bill Aufman, Dorothy and Ron Fritz, and Kimberly and Jerry Bolfing; her grandchildren, Connie and Shana Jones, Jodi Jones and fiancé, Owen Rassman, Matthew and Shannon Aufman, Simon and Martha Aufman Whitney, Beau and Whitney Bolfing, Adam and Shelby Jo Bolfing Newton and Molly Bolfing; great-grandchildren, Kaitlynne, Isabellah, William, Leland, Ellis, Henry and Abbie; her brother and sister-in-law Danny and Evelyn Pratka; a sister-in-law Barbara Stanislav; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren. Donations may be made in Mildred’s memory to Bishop Reicher Catholic High School. Mildred spent the last 4 years of her life at West Rest Haven where she received wonderful love and care thanks to the nurses and staff of Station 1.
