Mildred Perkins, age 89, of West, passed away late Saturday morning, January 29, 2022 at her residence. A private celebration of Mildred's life will be held at a later date. Mildred, who the youngest of sixteen children, was born May 17, 1932 in West, the daughter of Martin and Mary (Miller) Detterman. She attended St. Mary's School and was a graduate of West High School. in 1952 she was united in marriage to Grady Van Perkins in Colmesneil and he preceded her in death on December 8, 1982. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West and SPJST Lodge #6 in Cottonwood. Mildred was a bookkeeper for Oak Farms Dairy in Houston for 28 years before retiring in 1995. Mildred enjoyed doing yard work and going to garage sales. She loved spending time with her grandsons and her daily talks with her sister, Della. Mildred is also preceded in death by her parents; a son, Terry Perkins; a daughter-in-law, Kimberly Lynn Perkins; brothers, Bill, Fred, Herbert, Raymond, Edmund, and Arthur Detterman; and sisters, Josie Berger, Estelle Gostes, Louise Cox, Frances Schutza, Edith Jares, Leona Maler, Carrie Detterman, and Bernice Detterman. Survivors include her son, Cliff Perkins; grandsons, Joshua, Lucas, and Matthew Perkins, all of West; a sister, Della Bartosh; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
