Michael Andrew Kocian, 72, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle departed this world suddenly on December 1st, 2022 while touring the Holy Land with his loving wife of 44 years. He was called to join the Lord on the sacred ground at the Church of the Nativity, the birthplace of Jesus Christ in Bethlehem.
A visitation will be held at Seaside Funeral Home in Corpus Christi, Tx on Tuesday, December 13th at 6:00 p.m. with a Rosary to follow at 7:00 p.m. Services at Our Lady of Perpetual Help will follow on Wednesday, December 14th at 10:00 a.m. with a gathering of friends and family afterward at Moravian Hall in Corpus Christi, Tx. Mike's final resting place will be at the beautiful St. Mary's Cemetery in West, Tx. A Rosary will be recited 6:00 p.m. Friday at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West, with visitation to follow until 8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on December 17th at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption with the burial to follow.
Michael was born on December 17th, 1950 in Hugo, Oklahoma, but was a life-long resident of Corpus Christi, Texas. He attended Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic School, graduated from Richard King High School in 1969, and attended the University of Texas in Austin. In his younger years, Mike's love of the beach and his deep passion for surfing, mixed with his natural entrepreneurial spirit led him to open a surfboard stand at an early age in the 1960s. After meeting the love of his life, he continued his vocation as a successful businessman and opened a ServiceMaster franchise, which is still in operation under the management of his children. In 2002, he developed and expanded another successful company with the support of his devoted wife.
Mike was a devout Catholic and was a member of St. Andrew by the Sea Catholic Church on Padre Island where he lived. Before that he was a parishioner of St. Pius X Catholic Church for many years. He was an avid fisherman from an early age and always enjoyed any outdoor activity on the water. He felt great joy in competing in BBQ competitions throughout the years and also treasured his time traveling and meeting new people. He deeply cherished spending time with friends and family, near and far.
Mike is preceded in death by his father, Ernest William Kocian; his mother, Rita Beatrice Kocian, and his sister, Darla Kocian Elsik. He is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Susan Loraine Kocian, and their three daughters; Laura Rogers, Leslie Groom and her husband Trevor and Lisa Kocian; four grandchildren, Luke, Katelyn, Addison and Ella; three siblings, Donna, David and wife Karen, and Debbie and husband Larry; and his beloved dog, Frosty.
Mike will always be remembered for his deep love and devotion to God and his family. His fun-loving, positive outlook on life and his infectious smile, coupled with his sense of humor and his compassionate spirit will forever be remembered in our hearts. Mike was a genuine friend to everyone he encountered and his kind soul will be cherished by so many.
