Mel Ensey

Mel Ensey, age 97 of West, formerly of Levelland and Beaumont, passed away early Monday morning, January 26, 2009 at West Rest Haven in West. Graveside services will be held 3:00 p.m. Saturday at Spur Memorial Cemetery in Spur, Texas. The family will receive visitors from 2:00 p.m. until service time Saturday at Campbell Funeral Home in Spur. Mel was born on October 7, 1911 in Brad, Texas, the son of John and Leota (Orme) Ensey. He graduated from Spur High School in 1930 and served his country during World War II in the United States Army Air Corp. On July 8, 1937, he was united in marriage to Lavada McClung in Pecos. She preceded him in death on September 21, 2001. Mel worked as a pharmaceutical representative for the Ayerst Company, which is now Wyeth, for over thirty years before his retirement in 1976. He was a member of the Lion's Club in Beaumont and was very active member of the First United Methodist Church in Beaumont for 47 years, where he served as usher and was a member of the Faith Class. Mel also delivered Meals on Wheels in Beaumont, loved to golf and enjoyed traveling. He is also preceded in death by five sisters and two brothers. Survivors include one niece, Nancy Isaacs and husband Terry of West; his great-nieces and nephews, Ryan Isaacs of West, Tera McConnell and husband Reg of Big Spring, and Gina Kauffman and husband Sean of Levelland; great-great niece and nephews, Trent and Abby McConnell and Ethan Kauffman; and many other nieces and nephews, including Doug and Linda Swaringen of Decatur and Sue and Richard Stahl of Olive Branch, MS. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the West Rest Haven Memorial Fund.
