Mary Theresa "Nanie" Karlik, age 69, of West passed away late Friday afternoon, July 31, 2009 at her residence. A rosary will be recited 6:00 p.m. Monday at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel by Ginger Kutscherousky and Janice Kaluza, followed by visitation until 8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, with Rev. Ed Karasek and Msgr. Isidore Rozycki as celebrants. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. Mary was born October 14, 1939 in Joshua, the daughter of Charles E. and Martha (Kutscherousky) Giesen. She attended schools in Joshua and graduated from Joshua High School in 1958. Mary then received her Licensed Vocational Nursing degree from Hill Junior college. On July 5, 1958 she was united in marriage to Frank J. Karlik Jr. in Cleburne. He preceded her in death on October 12, 1995. Mary was an LVN for West Community Hospital, West Rest Haven, Texas Home Health Care, and Disability Services Southwest for over 35 years. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption. Mary was also a member of S.P.J.S.T. Lodge No. 6 in Cottonwood; West Sokol Gymnastics, where she served as secretary; Sokol District #3, where she served as secretary and nurse for the youth camp; Catholic Daughters of America Court No. 829; CCE teacher; West 4-H; K.J.Z.T. Society #11; West Little League Booster Club, where she formerly served as vice president; and a volunteer for West Ambulance Service, where she formerly served as treasurer. She also volunteered for the Red Cross Bloodmobile; coached girls softball; Scout Master for a West Cub Scout Troop; and was a reserve police officer. Mary enjoyed reading, cooking, babysitting, caring for the young and old, making funnel cakes for Sokol, and Sokol Friday Fun Nights. Her parents; a son, Charles Karlik; and a sister, Charline Haddix; also preceded her in death. Survivors include two sons, Frank J. Karlik III and special friend Delma Sue Pustejovsky and Michael Haddix, all of West; three daughters, JoAnn Strand and husband Buddy of Belton, Mary Beth Dulock and husband Jimmy of Tours, and Vickey Craig of West; three sisters, Martha Ann Bradburry and husband Floyd of Cleburne, Catherine McCormick and husband Bubba of Burleson, and Ruth Wallace of West; 16 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Active pallbearers are Tommy Kutscherousky, Ernest Kutscherousky, Mike Hutyra, Randy Horton, Bobby Craig, Kurt Haddix, Bradley Dulock, Britt Craig, and Andrew Dulock. Honorary pallbearers are Tyler Keel, Tim Kocian, Jesse Courtney, Daniel Haddix, Jordan Wallace, Scott Sparks, and Louis Hajek. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to West Sokol Gymnastics.
