Marvin Goldsmith

December 13, 1934 — May 31, 2024

Marvin Ray Goldsmith, age 89, of Chalk Bluff, went to be with his Lord and Savior late Friday morning, May 31, 2024 in Mansfield. He also joined his devoted and loving wife of 63 years, Naida, who recently passed away on May 23, 2024.


Funeral Service will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 4, 2024 at the First Baptist Church in Gholson, with Rev. James Stevens officiating. Burial will follow at Liberty Grove Cemetery near West.


Marvin was born December 13, 1934 in West, the son of Gladys (Crabb) and Leonard Goldsmith Sr. He attended schools in West and was a 1952 graduate of West High School, 1957 graduate of Baylor University and 1969 graduate of Kansas State with a Masters Degree. On July 2, 1960 he was united in marriage to Naida Russell in West. Marvin proudly served his country with the United States Marine Reserves during the Korean War. Marvin was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Gholson. He was also a member of Gideon International. He was a lifelong teacher and coach for many schools districts across Texas. Marvin joined the LaVega Independent School District in 1981 where he taught and coached for 15 years, before retiring in 1996. Marvin enjoyed traveling and going to the beach. He loved, teaching, coaching and spending time with family and friends. He never met a stranger and was loved by all who knew him.


Marvin is also preceded in death by his parents; and sisters; Fay Wilcox-Helleson and Iris Faglie.


Survivors include two sons, Ronald Goldsmith and wife Inga of Mansfield, and Lee Marvin Goldsmith of Colorado; brother, Leonard Goldsmith Jr and wife June; brother-in-law, Gayle Russell and wife Irene, and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.


Pallbearers are Curtis Abernathy, Ben Dever, William McCaig, Ricardo Santos, Steve Vaughn, Larry McAdoo, Gary Stokes, Jim Gentry, and Ray Murphy.


In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Liberty Grove Cemetery Association.
