Marvin Alex Drews, age 83, of West, passed away early Wednesday morning, June 18, 2014 at his residence. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West, with Rev. Billy Mac Patteson officiating. Burial will follow at Bold Springs Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Marvin was born November 27, 1930 in Mart, the son of Gustav Christian and Gertrude (Lehmann) Drews. He attended schools in Ross and graduated valedictorian from West High School in 1948. Marvin graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a Mechanical Engineering Degree, where he was the top of his class. He then received his Masters Degree in Metallurgical Engineering in 1955. On November 26, 1953, Marvin was united in marriage to Cordelia Hawkins in West. Marvin worked for Texas Instruments as a Geophysical Engineer from 1961 to 1984. He then worked as a semi-conductor chip Manufacturing Engineer with Zymos Corporation in Sunnyvale, CA from 1984 to 1989. Marvin also worked for VSLI Packaging Company and 5 Star Computers for several years before retiring in 1994. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in West. Marvin was also a member of Kiwanis Club of West, where he served as a past President and was named Kiwanian of the Year in 2005. Marvin enjoyed farming, investing in the stock market and watching Baylor athletics. Marvin is preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Leon Drews; and a sister, Mary (Drews) Jensen. Survivors include his beloved wife of 60 years, Cordelia Drews of West; two sons, Marvin A. "Mel" Drews, Jr. and wife Vicki of Colleyville and Robert Eric Drews and wife Barbie of Dallas; a brother, Wayne Drews and wife Diane; two grandchildren, Samantha Drews and Alex Drews; three step-grandchildren; seven step-great grandchildren with one on the way; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of West or to the charity of your choice. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the caregivers of Comfort Keepers, Providence Hospice Place, Scott & White Hospice and Quality Care of Waco.
