Martha Mary Prnka, age 86, of West, passed away early Monday afternoon, January 3, 2011 at Providence Health Center in Waco. A rosary will be recited and Mass of Christian Burial celebrated 10:00 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption with Rev. Will Straten as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Martha was born January 13, 1924 in Williams County, the daughter of Willie and Julie Anastasia (Dirba) Stojanik. She attended schools in Granger. On December 27, 1942 she was united in marriage to Harvey Julius Prnka Jr. in West. He preceded her in death on April 13, 2009. Martha was a homemaker and helped to make parachutes for all the soldiers during World War II. She loved spending time with her family and enjoyed gardening, cooking, sewing, baking kolaches, and canning. Martha was a longtime faithful member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West. She was also a member of the S.P.J.S.T. Lodge #6 in Cottonwood and K.J.Z.T. St. Ludmila Society #11 in West. Her parents; a great grandson, Stephen Hernandez; and a son-in-law, Lawrence Ondrej, also preceded her in death. Survivors include five daughters, Joan Ondrej, Dorothy Straten and husband David, and Linda Straten and husband Robert all of West, Alice Powell and husband Randall of Allen, and Carolyn Munn and husband Bob of Waco; nine grandchildren, Larry Ondrej and wife Gail, Lisa McAdams and husband Duane, Ryan Straten, Rev. Will Straten, Betsy Mynar and husband Teddy, Emma Straten, Craig Munn and wife Crysta, Brent Munn, and Catie Munn; eight great grandchildren, Khloe, Raymond, Ashley, Audrie, Keith, Dylan, Ty, Catherine and Trey; three great great grandchildren, Christopher, Elijah, and Camrym; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Active pallbearers are her grandchildren, Larry Ondrej, Lisa McAdams, Ryan Straten, Rev. Will Straten, Betsy Straten, Emma Straten, Craig Munn, Brent Munn and Catie Munn. Honorary pallbearers are her great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mary's School Endowment Fund or to the Purrfect Corporation, 133 Waterview Drive, Whitney, Texas 76692. The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to Dr. George Smith and all the other wonderful nursing staff, aides and residents of West Rest Haven for their love and support during her stay at the nursing home.
