Martha Mary (Grmela) Hejl, age 92, of Hillsboro, passed away Tuesday afternoon, April 29, 2014 at Hillcrest Hospital in Waco. A rosary will be recited 6:00 p.m. Thursday at the Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West by Janice Kaluza, with visitation to follow until 8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, with Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. Mrs. Hejl was born the youngest of seven children on June 17, 1921 in West, the daughter of Frank and Johanna (Barton) Grmela. She attended St. Mary's School and the old Alligator Creek School. On November 12, 1945 she was united in marriage to Emil F. Hejl in West. Emil preceded her in death on December 8, 1992. Martha was a homemaker and a farmer. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West. She was also a member of the K.J.Z.T. Society #104 in Abbott. Martha was known for her great kolaches and strudels. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, gardening, tending her roses and listening to Czech music. She especially loved her family and spending time with them. Martha is also preceded in death by her parents; son-in-law, Jim Johnson; brothers, Jim Grmela, Louis Grmela and John Grmela; and sisters, Philomena Smetak, Annie Grmela and Lillie Rejcek. Survivors include three sons, Eugene Hejl and wife Diana and Willie Hejl and wife Susie, all of Abbott and Edwin Hejl and wife Jeryl of Hillsboro; two daughters, Helen Johnson of Belton and Josephine Hoeft and husband Gary of Riesel; grandchildren, Dennis Hejl, Brenda Lenart and husband Robert, Donna English and husband Jerrod, Joanie Pustejovsky and husband Andy, Laura Kocurek and husband William IV, Stephen Hejl and fianc Lauren Chessmore, Matthew Johnson, Chance Yankie and wife Chelsea, Chase Yankie and wife Alesha, Jason Hejl and wife Melanie, Patrick Hejl and wife Tara, Joshua Hejl, Courtney Hoeft and Amy Hoeft; great grandchildren, Alli and Jacob Hejl, Hunter and Fisher Lenart, Jack and Hannah English, Ryan and Allison Pustejovsky, William and Kyle Kocurek, Samuel, Brianna, Alexis and MacKenzie Yankie and Lane and Jake Hejl; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers are Dennis Hejl, Stephen Hejl, Chase Yankie, Jason Hejl, Patrick Hejl and Joshua Hejl. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to your favorite charity.
