Martha E. Svacina, age 91, of West, passed away early Sunday morning, January 5, 2014 at Quality Care in Waco. A rosary will be recited and Mass of Christian Burial celebrated 10:00 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West, with Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Aderhold Funeral Home. Martha was born October 31, 1922 in West the daughter of Joe F. and Lillie (Trlica) Matus. She attended elementary school in Abbott and high school in West. On December 30, 1944 she was united in marriage to Henry J. Svacina in Liberal, KS. Henry preceded her in death on July 22, 1993. Martha was a homemaker. She was a faithful member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West where she sang in the P.T.C. Choir and helped with the weekly bulletins. She was also a member of the Catholic Daughters of America Court #829, K.J.Z.T. Society #11, the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary, where she chaired the sunshine committee and was a West Rest Haven volunteer for over 20 years, where she was named volunteer of the year for 2008-09. Martha enjoyed playing bingo, buying lottery tickets, gardening, baking and playing 42 with her grandkids. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Martha is also preceded in death by her parents and a son-in-law, Joe Lednicky. Survivors include two daughters, Patricia Lednicky of West and Carolyn Kyzar and husband Steve of Austin; a brother, Robert J. Matus and wife Nancy; 4 sisters, Marcella Kaska, Carrie Kaska, Lillian Teeple and husband Don and JoAnn Wiese; 6 grandchildren, Paul Owen, Valerie Lednicky and Barry Rochelle, Tim Lednicky and wife Staci, Emily Stillwell and husband John, Kathy Blann and husband Dusty, and Jodi Lednicky; 10 great grandchildren, Kyle, Tanner, Joey, Jeremy, Molly, Michael, Wyatt, Layla, McKenna, and Chason; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Active pallbearers are Paul Owen, Tim Lednicky, Dusty Blann, John Stillwell, Barry Rochelle, Kyle Owen and Joey Lednicky. Honorary pallbearers are Tanner Owen, Wyatt Blann, Jeremy Lednicky and Michael Slovak. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mary's School Endowment Fund or West Rest Haven Disaster Relief Fund.
