Margie Mema Cernosek

Margie "Mema" Cernosek, age 75, of West, passed away Saturday evening, March 20, 2010 at West Rest Haven in West. A rosary will be recited and Mass of Christian Burial celebrated 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West, with the Rev. Ed Karasek and Msgr. Isidore Rozycki as celebrants. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Mrs. Cernosek was born on February 8, 1935 in Penelope, the daughter of Willie and Bertha (Kubala) Pustejovsky. She attended schools in Penelope and Abbott and graduated from Abbott High School as Valedictorian of the Class of 1952. On May 28, 1952 she was united in marriage to C. W. Cernosek in Abbott. Margie was a faithful member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West. She was also a member of the Catholic Daughter's of America Court #829; K.J.Z.T. Society #11, Catholic Life Association, First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association, ran the West Summer League concession stand for several years, was a charter member and volunteer of West Volunteer Ambulance Association, a volunteer for the Westfest each year, Director and charter member of West Fraternal Auditorium and was instrumental in the construction, a member of St. Anne's Altar Society and West Fair and Rodeo Association. Margie worked for Fashion Fabrics and the Ben Franklin Store in West. After raising a family, at the age of 39, Margie went to LVN school at the West Community Hospital taught by Bettye Holzmann. She worked as a Licensed Vocational Nurse in Labor and Delivery for the West Hospital, where she also taught Lamaze classes for several years until her retirement. Margie enjoyed sewing, reading, working crossword puzzles, journaling, dancing, and traveling to such places as Czechoslovakia, Japan, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Canada, London, Hawaii, the Caribbean, Atlantis, Guadalajara, and Mexico. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Margie is preceded in death by her parents and a daughter, Mary Elizabeth Cernosek. Survivors include her faithful and beloved husband of 57 years, C.W. Cernosek of West; three sons, C. W. "Butch" Cernosek Jr. and wife Sharon of Sachse, Richard Cernosek and Sandy Chavez of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Donald Cernosek and wife Paula of West; four daughters, Denise McGuire and husband Dean of Midlothian, Carol Bartosh and husband Tommy of Duncanville, Joanie Crain and husband David of Grabill, Indiana, and Julie Freeman and husband Richard of Dawson; 19 grandchildren, Risha Beasley and husband Craig, Corby LaCroix and wife Cari, Miki Cernosek Land, T.J. Bartosh and wife Nicole, Clifford Bartosh and wife Michelle, Weston LaCroix, Marty Cernosek, Craig Bartosh and wife Melissa, Audra Lansdown and husband Trevor, Tammy Rios and husband Aaron, Christopher Cernosek, Leslie Cernosek, Molly Cernosek, Jade Crain, Lisa Cernosek, Grace Crain, Benjamin Freeman, Catherine Bartosh, and Joshua Freeman; 9 great grandchildren, Haley, Jacob, Trevor, Abby, Kate, Owen, Parker, Emma, and Tatum; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Active pallbearers are her grandsons and honorary pallbearers are employees of West Rest Haven. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the West Rest Haven Activity Fund, West Volunteer Ambulance Association, West Youth Baseball/Softball League, or to the charity of your choice.
