Margaret Carpenter

Margaret "Granny" Carpenter, age 90, of Gholson, passed away early Thursday morning, November 26, 2009 at Lakeshore Village Healthcare Center in Waco. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West, with Rev. Larry Wymore officiating. Burial will follow at Gholson Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Mrs. Carpenter was born June 7, 1919 in Falls County, the daughter of Clem and Nellie Mae (Tadlock) Lanford. She attended school near Satin. On February 16, 1935, she was united in marriage to Curtis C. Carpenter. He preceded her in death on August 9, 1989. Margaret worked for Wolf Manufacturing in West and Waco for many years. She also worked for Fab Knit; Clifton Manufacturing; General Tire and Rubber Company; and picked cotton when she was young. Margaret enjoyed fishing, playing bingo, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Everyone knew her as "Granny". Margaret was a member of First Baptist Church of Gholson, where she formerly worked in the nursery. Her parents; three sons, Bobby Joe Carpenter, Donald Ray Carpenter, and Danny A. Carpenter; a daughter, Carolyn Attaway; two brothers, Walter Lanford and J. C. Lanford; and an infant sister, Amy Keys; also preceded her in death. Survivors include two sons, Curtis Carpenter Jr. and wife Rose Marie of Gholson and Cecil Carpenter Rogers and wife Kathy of Aquilla; a daughter, Ann Baird and husband Bennie of Waco; four sisters, Odie Sue Nulph of Robinson, Ellen Faye Carrol of Waco, Ina Mae Davison of Chalk Bluff, and Geraldine Walker and husband Richard of Golinda; twenty grandchildren; forty-eight great grandchildren; twenty-four great great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Active pallbearers are Kirk Carpenter, Lance Carpenter, Brian Carpenter, Blake Carpenter, Darrell Carpenter, and Bobby Don Carpenter. Honorary pallbearer is Daniel Carpenter. Memorials may be made to Providence Hospice.
