Margaret Arthur, age 91, of West, passed away Tuesday morning, July 30, 2013 at Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center in Waco. Funeral services will be held 9:30 a.m. Friday at the Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West, with Ministers Rusty Kwast and Sam Armstrong officiating. Private family burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Mrs. Arthur was born August 5, 1921 in Palestine, the daughter of George and Mabel (Camp) Smith. She attended Goose Creek School in Houston. On November 4, 1965 she was united in marriage to George Lee Arthur in Houston. He preceded her in death on January 18, 1996. Margaret worked in the nursery at Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center in Waco for 17 years until her retirement. She loved caring for children and did babysitting for several families in the community of West for many years. She was a faithful member of Elm Mott Church of Christ and taught Sunday School for many years. Margaret was a people person and enjoyed visiting and playing games with family and friends. She loved reading, flowers, gardening and canning lots of vegetables. Margaret is also preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, William "Bill" Smith, Brady Smith, and Hugh Smith. Survivors include many other relatives and friends. Active pallbearers are Rusty Arthur, Buster Arthur, David Fleming, David F. Barrett, Ray Wiggins and Bruce Cameron. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cherokee Home for Children.
