Marcy Vrba Scalf

September 16, 1934 — November 20, 2008

Marcella Ann "Marcy" (Vrba) Scalf, age 74, of San Antonio, formerly of the West area, passed away early Thursday afternoon, November 20, 2008 at home after a long illness. A rosary will be recited and Mass of Christian Burial celebrated 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Tours, with Msgr. Isidore Rozycki as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Martin's Cemetery. Marcy was born September 16, 1934 in Tours, the daughter of Frank & Agnes (Willenborg) Vrba. She attended school in Tours and graduated from West High School in 1952. Marcy led a full and varied life. A retired federal employee, she was commended with many honors, including the Dan Berkant Award. She ended her long career with service in Washington, D.C., after more than 35 years. A very active participant in many areas, even after retirement, she was a member of Toastmistress International, a Certified Professional Tour Guide of San Antonio, a Bexar County Election Official, a member of the Herb Society, the Bulverde Quilting Club, and a Master Gardener. She loved traveling the world and was an avid skier, visiting ski resorts all over the United States and Europe. Marcy will be missed by all her friends and family for her giving nature, wry sense of humor, and her tireless energy. An animal lover, she always had dogs and cats in her life until the very end. When family came to visit her, wherever she lived, they would be taken to places of interest and entertained. Marcy is preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Sister Martha Vrba, Sister Thelmilla Vrba, and Sister Dorothy Vrba; and four brothers, Frankie Vrba, Vistor Vrba, Ernest Vrba, and Andrew Vrba. Survivors include one brother, Raymond Vrba and his wife Helen of Mesquite, two sisters-in-law, Ruby Vrba of Waco and Georgia Vrba Juricek of Tours; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers are Larry Vrba, Gary Vrba, Richard Vrba, Anthony Vrba, Glenn Vrba, and Kenneth Vrba. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
