Marcella Kaska, age 90, of West, passed away early Friday afternoon, September 2, 2016 at West Rest Haven in West. A rosary will be recited and Mass of Christian Burial celebrated 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, with Rev. Paul Hudson as celebrant, assisted by Deacon Dwight Mahoney. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. There will be no visitation held. Marcella was born January 15, 1926 in Abbott, the daughter of Joe F. and Lillie (Trlica) Matus. She attended schools in West and was a 1943 graduate of West High School. On February 10, 1947 she was united in marriage to Anton L. "Tony" Kaska in West. Tony preceded her in death on June 8, 1967. Marcella worked for the Abbott Turkey Shop for over 25 years before retiring in 1996. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption. She was also a member of the KJZT Society #11 and St. Anne Altar Society. She enjoyed gardening, tending her flowers, playing dominoes and watching television. Marcella is also preceded in death by her parents; a son, David Kaska; and a sister, Martha Svacina. Survivors include a son, Michael Kaska of West; a brother, Robert Matus and wife Nancy; sisters, Carrie Kaska, Lillian Teeple and JoAnn Wiese; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers are Craig Wiese, Mark Teeple, Rick Matus, Travis Collier, Tim Lednicky and Paul Owen. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mary School Endowment Fund, Post Office Box 276, West, TX 76691 or to West Rest Haven, 503 Meadow, West, TX 76691.
