Marcella J. (Holecek) George, age 82, of West, passed away Tuesday morning, June 28, 2011 at West Rest Haven. A rosary will be recited and Mass of Christian Burial celebrated 9:00 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, with Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrant. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. at DFW National Cemetery in Dallas. The family will receive visitors from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Marcella was born on April 21, 1929 in West, the daughter of Jerry and Rose (Juroch) Holecek. She attended Tokio School and graduated from West High school in 1946. After graduation, she attended Providence Hospital School of Nursing and graduated in May, 1949 as a Registered Nurse. She went to work at the V.A. Hospital in McKinney, where she met her husband of 56 years James George. On May 18, 1951, she was united in marriage to James in the chapel of the hospital by Rev. Charles Mullholland. She also worked at Wilson N. Jones Hospital, and Whitcomb Memorial Hospital for 25 years until her retirement in 1982. Then they moved to Cedar Creek Lake and enjoyed 17 years of retirement until Parkinson's Disease and Diabetes claimed his life on July 15, 2007. Marcella was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church in Gun Barrel City, the Altar Guild, where she served as secretary for 2 years, and a member of KJZT #11. She enjoyed gardening, fishing, crocheting, and watching Dallas Cowboy and Texas Rangers games. She also enjoyed watching games shows, playing card games, dominoes, and spending times with family and friends. She is also preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Henry Holecek and L.A. Holecek. Survivors include four sons, Russell "Rusty" George and wife Karen and Jeffrey George and wife Candace, all of Grand Prairie, Richard George and wife Brenda of Campbell, and Kenneth George of Keller; one brother, Larry Holecek and wife Mollie of Waco; two sisters, MaryAnn Hykel and husband Harry Lee and Milada Mazanec, all of West; 10 grandchildren, Bryan George, Daniel George and wife Brooke, Vanessa George, Deirdre George, Amanda Walewski and husband Ed, Jason George, Ashley Sanderlin and husband Wade, Hillary D. Huffer and husband J.T. Huffer, Duffy George, and Kelsi George; 5 great-grandchildren, Morgan Sanderlin, Cadence Talbot-Huffer, Allie Sanderlin, Johnny Huffer, and Finn George; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Active pallbearers will be her grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be her granddaughters. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Vincent DePaul Society.
