Col. Lynn O. Walker (Ret.), age 69, of Reno, NV, formerly of Gholson, passed away December 26, 2015 in Reno. Memorial services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 16, 2016 at the Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West, with Rev. Bruce Carpenter officiating. Military Graveside Rites will follow at Gholson Cemetery, conducted by Ft. Hood Honor Guard. Lynn was born October 30, 1946 in Waco, the son of James and Afton (Maddox) Walker. After graduating from Burleson High School, Lynn earned his B.S. Degree from the University of Maryland and later received his M.S. from the University of Shippensburg. Retired Colonel Walker served his country with great honor and dignity. During his honored service, he was a graduate of the Army General Command Course, the Army War College and was a U.S. Army Jumpmaster. His awards include: the Legion of Merit with one Oak Leaf Cluster; the Meritorious Service Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters; Army Commendation Medal; Army Achievement Medal; Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal; National Defense Service Medal; Humanitarian Service Medal; Armed Forces Reserve Medal; Army Service Ribbon; Overseas Service Ribbon; Expert Infantryman Badge; Senior Parachutist Badge; National Guard Recruiting Badge; Army Staff Identification Badge. During his service, he was stationed at the following places: Fort Sam Houston, Texas.; Fort Leavenworth, Kansas; Fort Benning, Georgia; The Pentagon; Fort Carson, Colorado; Carlisle Barracks, Pennsylvania; Heidelberg, Germany. Lynn was a Mason, Shriner and a member of the ROJ. He was an active member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Reno and a former member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church in Gholson. He was involved in numerous community activities and charities. He was a former vice-president for the Gholson ISD school board and a former vice-president of the Gholson Cemetery Association. Lynn enjoyed the gift of humor and was known as a competitor who loved playing cards with family and friends. He was an avid Texas Ranger fan, enjoyed feeding birds and looked forward to the return of the hummingbirds each spring. He leaves behind his beloved doxies, Luni and Chelsea. Lynn is preceded in death by his parents, James and Afton Walker; a daughter, Wende Walker-Smith; and a brother, Brian Littleton. Survivors include his loving wife, Vicki Maxwell Walker; his daughter, Misty Votaw and husband Bo; son-in-law, Ben Smith; sister-in-law, Marilou Littleton; brother-in-law, David F. Maxwell and wife Vicki; sister-in-law, Karen Keeling and husband David; grandchildren, Bayley and Delayna Votaw and Masen Smith; nieces, Angie Goates, Kim Scott, Melissa Switzer and Bobbie Roth; a nephew, David S. Maxwell; lifelong friend, Jim Culver; and many other treasured family and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul's United Methodist Church of Reno or Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church of Gholson.
