Lula Joyce McDuffie, age 87, of Waco, passed away Friday morning, August 8, 2014 at Quality Care Center in Waco. Graveside services will be held 3:00 p.m. Monday at Rosemound Garden of Memories Cemetery in Waco, with Rev. Jeffery Stinson officiating. Joyce was born December 22, 1926 in Texarkana, Arkansas, the daughter of George and Eron (Starkey) Sims. She was a housewife and homemaker for most of her life. Joyce loved playing games, dominoes and did volunteer work with disabled veterans. She was known for dancing with Fred Astaire and was called "The Jitterbug Queen". Joyce is preceded in death by her parents; a son, Kerry McDuffie; two brothers, George Sims Jr. and Merle Sims; and three sisters, Laverne Strange, Esther Sims and Artie Sims. Survivors include a son, Neil McDuffie and wife Abbie of Hilltop Lakes; a daughter, Dana Jones and husband Melvin of Victoria; a sister, Melvina Jones; two grandchildren; five great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Disabled American Veterans.
