Lula B. "Whitie" Allen, age 84, of West, passed away Thursday afternoon, March 30, 2006 in a Waco nursing home. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday at the Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Gene Kotrla and Chaplain Ann Pennington officiating. Burial will follow at Bold Springs Cemetery near West. The family will receive visitors from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Mrs. Allen was born August 16, 1921 in Travis County, the daughter of Antone and Julia (Sakewitz) Rust. She was attended schools in New Sweden. On June 19, 1943 she married Winford W. Allen in Galveston. They moved to the West area in 1946 and began to raise their three children. Whitie was a salesperson for JC Penny Department Store in Galveston, and the White Auto Store, and Keen's Store in West. She loved to cook and worked for Heitmiller's Restaurant and several caf's including manager of the Tip Top Caf in West. Whitie loved her grandchildren dearly and enjoyed bingo, family reunions, and cooking where she was known for her delicious chicken and dumplings, cream pies and sweet rice. Whitie was a member of the First United Church in West. Her husband preceded her in death on May 10, 1986. Her parents; a son, Danny W. Allen; a brother, Roydell Rust; and a sister, Waldine Sabella, also preceded her in death. Survivors include two daughters, Gayle Mashek and husband Sammy, Linda Girard and husband Johnny, all of Eddy; three sisters, Florine Weiss, Grace Farris, and Janelle Williams, all of Austin; five grandchildren, Melissa Sumerour, Marc Mashek, Jeremy Girard, Justin Girard and Jay Allen; four great grandchildren, Lauryn Allen, Macy Allen, Colby Brooke and Jake Girard; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Pallbearers are Marc Mashek, Jay Allen, Jeremy Girard, Justin Girard, Jimmy Don Sumerour and Phil Griffith. Memorials may be made to the First United Church of West or the West Senior Luncheon Program.
