Ludmila "Lidka" Vaculik, age 95, of West, passed away late Tuesday night, October 28, 2014 at Crestview Manor in Waco. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church of West, with Dr. John Crowder officiating. Burial will follow at Bold Springs Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday at Aderhold Funeral Home. Ludmila was born October 28, 1919 in Hluk, Czechoslovakia the oldest daughter of Jan and Maria (Pistek) Simcik. She grew up in Hluk and helped her father, who was a butcher and operated a pub. On October 16, 1938 she was united in marriage to Karol Vaculik in Slovakia before the start of World War II. Karol preceded her in death on March 12, 1989. Ludmila came to America in 1965 and lived in Maywood, California and worked in a factory. They then moved to West in September of 1979 and were very involved with many activities. She volunteered at the West Senior Center, baked homemade bread for the West Rest Haven's Czech heritage time and spoke Czech to the residents, dressed participants in Kroj at Westfest, took care of her vegetable garden and tended her flowers. Ludmila enjoyed sharing her love of the Czech culture with everyone and many have her crocheted butterflies in their homes. She was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of West, a member of the McLennan-Hill County Chapter Czech Heritage Society and attended SPJST Lodge #54 meetings in West. Ludmila is also preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Jan Simcik; and a great granddaughter, Michalka Ondrackova. Survivors include two sons, Karol Vaculik Jr. and wife Kveta of Hluk, Czech Republic and Jan Vaculik and wife Marcela of West; a sister, Marta Stefanikova; grandchildren, Karel Vaculik, Sarka Ondrackova and husband Karel, Jana Riley and husband John, and Jon Vaculik; great grandchildren, Karel, Miroslav, Sarka and Martin; and many others who called her "Babicka". Active pallbearers are Steven Lovecky, Dan Moss, Pavel Belicka, Mike Nelson, Jon Vaculik and John Riley. Honorary pallbearers are Ray Snokhous and Dean Pike. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sokol West Gymnastics, McLennan-Hill County Czech Heritage Society, Alzheimer's Association or the charity of your choice. For the loving care of our mother and grandmother, the family would like to thank her daughter-in-law, Marcela Vaculik; the staff of Reliable Home Health, including Jordan Spence CNA, Sara Smith Pickens LVN, Nikki Harris RN, and Andrea Rudder RN; and the staff at Crestview Manor Nursing Home.
