Lucy McCartney, age 99, of Gholson, passed away early Sunday afternoon, January 12, 2020 at West Rest Haven in West. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 15, 2020 at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West, with Rev. Todd Pick officiating. Burial will follow at Gholson Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Aderhold Funeral Home in West. Lucy was born June 3, 1920 near Waco, the daughter of George and Bertha (Richter) Bettinger. She attended school in Gholson and was a graduate of La Vega High School. On July 25, 1936 she was united in marriage to Frank McCartney in Waco. Frank preceded her in death on January 21, 1990. Lucy was a Mother and homemaker. She was a member of the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church in Gholson. Lucy loved spending time with her family, especially with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed going to the casinos and cooking Sunday dinners. Lucy was also preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Bertha Mae Wright; her brothers, Milton Bettinger and George Bettinger; sisters, Shirley Ann Almon and Helen Faye McCartney; and a granddaughter, Beverly Cureton. Survivors include her children, Barbara Breen of West, Jerry McCartney and wife Mary of Riesel, and Larry Joe McCartney and wife Janet of Gholson; a son-in-law, Ernest Wright; a brother, James Bettinger; 11 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; 30 great great grandchildren; a great great great granddaughter; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers are Tim Witt, Ronnie Guinn, Robby Guinn, Darrell McCartney, Scott McCartney, Jimmy McCartney, Larry McCartney, Gary McCartney and Jason McCartney. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gholson Cemetery Association.
