Lois Kallus

Lois (Marek) Sykora Kallus, age 100, of Waco, formerly of West, passed away early Thursday morning, December 28, 2023 at Ascension Living in Waco.


A rosary will be recited 6:00 p.m. Friday, January 5, 2024 at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West, followed by visitation until 8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 6, 2024 at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West, with Rev. Cyril Ejaidu and Rev. Timothy Vaverek as celebrants. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery.


Lois was born December 15, 1923 in Hill County, the daughter of Joe R. and Marie (Makovy) Marek. She attended schools in Brooken, Cottonwood, and West. On November 5, 1946 she was united in marriage to Joe A. Sykora in West. Joe preceded her in death on June 23, 1967. Then on May 27, 1972 she was united in marriage to Raymond Kallus in West. Raymond also preceded her in death on December 12, 2008. Lois was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West and St. Catherine's Christus Chapel in Waco. She was also a member of KJZT Society #11 and KJT Society #31. She worked at the Ben Franklin Store in West until her retirement.


Lois is also preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Edward Marek (Virginia), Johnnie Marek (Ann), and Josef Marek Jr.; sisters, Christine Svrcek (Cyrill), Sophie Young (Bernard), and Mary Pavlovsky (Raymond); and a sister-in-law, Mary Jo Marek.


Survivors include her daughters, Dolores "Dody" Volcik (Larry) and Rose Volcik (Harry); her grandsons, Ryan Volcik (Kristin), Travis Volcik (Lindsey), and Alan Volcik (Kelli); her great grandchildren, Austin Bolfing (Katie) and their children, Luke and Blair, Caden Volcik, Ian Volcik, Alison Volcik, and Kayla Volcik; her brother, Cy Marek; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.


Pallbearers are Ryan Volcik, Travis Volcik, Alan Volcik, Bryan Young, Louis Pavlas, and Ed Mikuda.


In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in memory of Lois to Ascension Providence Foundation, for Providence Village Long Term Endowment, 6901 Medical Parkway, Waco, TX 76712.
