Lloyd M. "Koko" Koen, age 90, of West, passed away early Monday morning, December 26, 2011 at West Rest Haven in West. Graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Cemetery, with Robert Zahirniak officiating. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at Aderhold Funeral Home in West. Mr. Koen was born April 4, 1921 in Waco, the son of Albie Frank and Sally Lenora (Murddock) Koen. He graduated from West High School in 1941. He was very good in sports and won a medal in tennis. Koko served his country with the United States Coast Guard during World War II. On November 17, 1951 he was united in marriage to Benedicta "Bennie" Hutyra in Waco. Koko worked for General Tire and Rubber Company in Waco as a final finisher for over 40 years before retiring in 1980. He was a member of the West Bass Club and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 4819. He enjoyed playing dominoes, watching all sports, polka dancing, and playing fast pitch softball for General Tire's Softball Team. Koko is preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Alton Koen, Marshall Koen, and Kenneth Koen. Survivors include his beloved wife of 60 years, Bennie Koen of West; a daughter, Susan Geary and husband Mark of Austin; a sister, Vera Gardner of Waco; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
