Lillie Maurine (Thompson) Thomas, 91, of Kerrville, discarded her earth suit and began her journey to meet her Redeemer Friday evening, September 6, 2013 from her residence at a local private care home. Graveside services will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Gerald Cemetery with Rev. Todd Ewing officiating. Following the service, the ladies of the Leroy Church will host an informal light lunch at the fellowship hall in Leroy. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at Aderhold Funeral Home in West. Mrs. Thomas was born July 2, 1922, in Leroy, the daughter of Roy and Zelma (Taylor) Thompson. She was married to Clifford Thomas for 25 years. He preceded her in death on April 3, 1977. Maurine lived most of her life in Leroy, and worked for more than thirty years in the accounting department of Texas Life Insurance Company in Waco, retiring from there in 1992. In 2002, she moved to Kerrville to be near family. She was a lifelong Baptist, a member of the Leroy Community Church for fifty years. At her death, she was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Kerrville. Lily was a kind and gentle soul, delicate and always so very conscious of being polite and considerate to all those around her. Her final years of struggling with illness did not erase that base of southern born genteel behavior. As she prepared to leave this world, her gentle spirit remained, her gratitude for any kindness paid to her remained, and her lovely smile remained, all reminders of the lovely flower she has always, and in our memories, will always be. She will forever be remembered as our very own special Lily. "Lily", as she preferred to be called for the past several years, is survived by her sister, Betty Straten of Burleson, son, John Thomas of Fort Worth, daughter, Linda Wingfield Poelma of Kerrville; grandchildren, Robin Dodd of Nashville, TN, Kelly Riddle of Fort Worth, Leslie Wingfield of Rowlett, Brent Wingfield of Denton; two great grandsons; six great granddaughters; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Gerald Cemetery Association, PO Box 62, Leroy, TX 76654 or to the Leroy Community Church.
