Lillie Marie Shumate, age 83, of Waco, formerly of West, passed away late Monday evening, October 31, 2016 at Providence Hospital in Waco. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 4, 2016 at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, with Rev. Augustine Ariwaodo as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. Lillie was born June 22, 1933 in West, the daughter of the late Albert and Helen (Miller) Smith. She attended schools in West and was a 1951 graduate of West High School prior to attending 4-C Business College in Waco. Lillie was a Probation Officer for the Waco/McLennan County Probation Department for 20 years, before retiring in 2004. She also worked for Shumate Trucks and Vans of Tampa, FL and Carson & Carson Attorney's in Waco. Lillie was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church in Waco. Lillie enjoyed traveling, all sports, reading and taking care of her dog "Buffy". Survivors include her children, Marva Salazar of Waco and Mark Shumate and wife Elizabeth of Odessa, FL; her devoted husband, Marvin Shumate of Tampa, FL; a sister, Marcie Herring; grandchildren, Michael Salazar and wife Shannon, Ashley Shumate, Brittney Shumate and Courtney Shumate; great grandchildren, Tabitha and Mykayla; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers are Robert Miller, Pete Salazar, Jack Herring and Rick Herring. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Cancer Society.
