Lillian M. Zapalac, age 90, of West, passed away Thursday evening, December 27, 2012 at Providence Health Center in Waco. A rosary will be recited and Mass of Christian Burial celebrated 9:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, with Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. Lillian was born August 19, 1922 in Abbott, the daughter of Henry C. and Emilie (Jezek) Zapalac. She graduated from West High School in 1941 and Providence Nursing School in 1944. Lillian served her country during World War II as an army nurse. She was honorably discharged at the rank of 2nd Lieutenant in 1946. Lillian worked for the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Dallas for 33 years until her retirement. She then worked for West Rest Haven for a short period of time. Lillian was a very faithful member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption. She was also member of the Catholic Daughter's of America Court #829, K.J.Z.T. St. Ludmila Society #11, and St. Anne's Altar Society. Lillian is preceded in death by her parents and a brother, George Zapalac. Survivors include a brother, Henry Zapalac and wife Mildred; a sister, Georgia Landkamer; an aunt, Lillian Cassidy; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers are Charles Zapalac, Randy Zavodny, Matt Regmund, Richard Zapalac, Tommy Muska and Ray Rochester. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church.
