Lillian (Pustejovsky) Filer, age 89, of West, passed away Wednesday morning, March 20, 2024 at West Rest Haven.
A rosary will be recited 6:00 pm Tuesday at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Tours, followed by visitation until 8:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 am Wednesday, March 27, 2024 at St. Martin's Catholic Church, with Rev. Stephen Nesrsta as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Martin's Cemetery.
Lillian was born August 16, 1934 in Abbott, the daughter of Emil and Bessie (Pavlicek) Pustejovsky. She was a 1953 graduate of Abbott High School where she was crowned queen of the high school. On August 1, 1955 she was united in marriage to Matthew Filer in Abbott. Lillian was a long-time and faithful member of St. Martin's Catholic Church in Tours as well as a member of St. Martin's Parish Council, the Austin Diocesan Council of Catholic Women and helped in organizing and hosting the Rural Life Mass for farmers, Catholic Daughters of America Court #829 in West, and St. Elizabeth Society in Tours. She was also a member of Catholic Life, a charter member of McLennan-Hill Czech Heritage Society of Texas, KJZT Society #45 in Tours, and a charter board member of the History of West Museum. Lillian was also a member of the Ladies Birthday Club with her sisters and friends. She worked for West Community Hospital for many years. Lillian enjoyed farming, gardening, baking kolaches, cooking for large gatherings, traveling, researching genealogy and family history, volunteering at West Rest Haven and chairing the McLennan-Hill Czech Heritage booth at Westfest, speaking the Czech language, and hosting visitors from the Czech Republic. She loved spending time with family and friends.
Lillian is preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Bernice Beene; brothers-in-law, Frankie Marak, Raymond Jaska, and Kenneth Beene.
Survivors include her beloved husband of 68 years, Matthew Filer of West; her children, Raymond Joe Filer and wife Kathy of West, Richard Joe Filer and wife Hattie of West, and Carol Ann Filer of Austin; her grandchildren, Shaun Filer and wife Sarah, Mary Jo Filer, Justin Filer and wife Christy, Karla Farnsworth and husband Lynn, Holly Hellinger and husband Sam, Ricky Filer, Travis Filer and wife Emily, Ethan Filer and wife Caitlin; great-grandchildren, Audrey, Avery, Joslynn, Rylyn, Joleigh, Hudson, Autumn, Conrad, Hallie, Fletcher and Adalynn; sisters, Agnes Marak and Theresa Jaska; brothers, Eugene Pustejovsky and wife Kathy, and Emil Pustejovsky Jr. and wife Francis; a brother-in-law, Wesley Filer and wife Judy; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Active pallbearers are Shaun Filer, Justin Filer, Ricky Filer, Travis Filer, Ethan Filer, Ronnie Marak, and Phil Pustejovsky. Honorary pallbearers are Members of the McLennan-Hill Czech Heritage Society.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the History of West Museum, CCE at St. Martin's in Tours, St. Martin's Cemetery Association or a memorial of choice.
