Lidia Chavez de Helguera, age 54, of West, passed away early Saturday morning, May 25, 2013 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident near West. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 1, 2013 at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West, with Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrant. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Lidia will return to Mexico for burial. Lidia was born August 3, 1958 in Chalchihuites Zacatecas, Mexico, the daughter of Abraam and Atala (Rodriguez) Chavez. She was a mother and homemaker. Lidia was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West. She enjoyed helping with various charities, cooking, gardening and tending to her flowers. She loved babysitting her grandchildren Jairo Jr., Angela, Giselle, Fidel, and Marina, and especially cherished spending time with her nephew, Jayden. She also enjoyed collecting angel ornaments and decorations. Lidia was also known for her generous heart. Survivors include her husband, Julian Chavez of West; her parents, Abraam and Atala Chavez; sons, J. Angel Helguera and wife Maria Rodarte, Christopher Helguera, and Alberto Helguera and wife Magda; daughter, Linda Lopez and husband Jairo; stepsons, Brett Chavez and wife Ashley, Julian M. Chavez and Matthew Chavez and wife Roxanne; brothers, Jesus Chavez and wife Christina, Juan Chavez and wife Hilda, Pedro Chavez and wife Petra and Javier Chavez and wife Angela; sisters, Teresa Chavez and husband Javier, Adelina Ramirez and husband Antonio, Enedina Garcia and husband Ricardo, Maria Helguera and husband Raul, Elena Chavez, Leticia Lopez and husband Manuel, and Alejandrina Lopez and husband Juan; 7 grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers are Brett Chavez, Jose Chavez, Carlos Duran, Pancho Chavez, Matthew Chavez and Pedro Chavez. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the West Relief Fund.
