Leo Joseph Hanzlicek

Leo Joseph Hanzlicek, age 79, of Penelope, passed away early Sunday morning, January 7, 2018 at Goodall-Witcher Hospital in Clifton. A rosary will be recited 6:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel, followed by visitation until 8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Thursday, January 11, 2018 at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West, with Rev. Darrell Kostiha as celebrant, assisted by Deacon Denver Crawley. Military Graveside Rites will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery near West, conducted by the West Veterans Honor Guard. Leo was born September 23, 1938 in West, the son of John and Hattie (Neckar) Hanzlicek. He was a 1958 graduate of Penelope High School. Leo served in the United States Army National Guard, stationed in Colorado. He was a member of the Church of the Nativity, B.V.M. in Penelope. Leo was also a member of the KJT Society in Penelope. He enjoyed gardening, being outdoors, farming and tending to his cattle. Leo was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Mary Johnson, Helen Cepak and Estelle Marek and brothers, Johnny, George, Herman, Edwin and Bennie Hanzlicek. Survivors include a sister, Hattie Kadlubar and husband Bernard; a sister-in-law, Leona Hanzlicek; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers are Johnny Hanzlicek, Harry Hanzlicek, James Johnson, Ray Parma, Danny Cepak, Andy Grmela, Danny Kadlubar and Bernie Kadlubar. Honorary pallbearers are all his nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Church of the Nativity BVM in Penelope.
