Leander Berger, age 67, of Tours, affectionately known as the Mayor of Tours, passed away early Sunday morning, October 2, 2016 at St. Catherine Center in Waco. A rosary will be recited 6:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel, followed by visitation until 8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at St. Martin's Catholic Church of Tours, with Rev. Walter Dhanwar as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Martin's Cemetery. Leander was born September 28, 1949 in Waco, the son of William J. and Hilda Berger. He attended schools in West. Leander was a faithful member of St. Martin's Catholic Church of Tours, where he was also a member of the St. Martin's Cemetery Association. He enjoyed doing yard work, going to the Heart of Texas Speedway races with James, going to Village Bakery with Mary Hurtt and also loved camping. Leander is preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Ernest Berger and William Berger. Survivors include a brother, James Berger of Harker Heights; sisters, Sister Jacinta Berger and Tarcisia Pavlicek, both of San Antonio and Shirley Svrcek of Robinson; a sister-in-law, Dorene Berger; a special caregiver, Mary Hurtt; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Active pallbearers are Charles Svrcek, Thomas Svrcek, Donnie Berger, Kevin Berger, Jason Berger and Derrick Hurtt. Honorary pallbearers are his many friends and neighbors. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Martin's Cemetery Association or to Providence Hospice.
