Lawrence "Ed" Bolfing, age 80, of Lacy Lakeview passed away early Sunday afternoon, May 1, 2005 in Chalk Bluff. A rosary will be recited 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West, by Rev. Timothy Vavarek. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at St. Louis Catholic Church in Waco, with Rev. Timothy Vavarek and Monsignor Mark Deering as celebrants. Military Graveside Rites will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, conducted by West V.F.W. Post No. 4819. Ed was born May 3, 1924 in Lacy Lakeview, the son of Robert and Helen (Pardo) Bolfing. He attended Sacred Heart Academy, Lakeview School, and graduated from Waco High School in the Class of 1943. Ed joined the Army Air Corp as an aviation cadet after high school graduating as a bombardier in 1944 in Childress. He met Kathalene Thorpes while stationed in Monroe, Louisiana and they were united in marriage in the Waco area in 1946. She preceded him in death after 32 years of marriage on January 27, 1978. After being discharged from the Air Corp, Ed worked at the General Tire & Rubber Company in Waco while he was attending Baylor University. He was recalled into the Air Force during the Korean War and upon his discharge he joined his father and brother Gerald in the grocery business known as Bolfing Grocery for over 30 years until 1990. He then joined his brother Pat and his wife JoAnn as co-owner of Brazos Pawn in Lacy-Lakeview, before retiring in 2002. He enjoyed volunteering for Providence Health Center and with the GED Math Program. He was known for his quick wit, his sense of humor and a good laugh, especially on his brothers. Ed was an avid golfer and loved to read, especially about science, and enjoyed taking long drives through the countryside. He was a faithful member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Bellmead. His parents; a daughter, Elizabeth Bolfing; and his brother, Patrick Bolfing also preceded him in death. Survivors include his son, Larry Bolfing and wife, Gina Boudreaux of West; his daughter, Mary Kay Couper and husband James of Chalk Bluff; two step-sons, Steve Smith and Terry Smith, and a step-daughter, Amy Brassart all of Bentonville, AK; two brothers, Bobby Bolfing and wife Frances of Mongomery and Gerald Bolfing and wife Mary Jo of Waco; two sisters, Margie Anderson and husband Hal of Chalk Bluff and Helen Marie Pryor of Lacy-Lakeview; grandchildren, Amanda June Burke and her husband Timothy, Kathalene Dianne Hunter and her husband Kirk, Jeff Messec, Robyn Boudreaux, and Nikki Boudreaux; seven step grandchildren; a great granddaughter, Erika Hunter; fourteen nieces, ten nephews, thirty four great nieces, forty great nephews and many other relatives. Active pallbearers are Jeff Messec, Donny Haines, Jerry Bolfing, Phil Bolfing, Sidney Bolfing, Steve Smith, Kenneth Bolfing and Bill Bolfing. Honorary pallbearers are Sam Roebuck, Wallace Martin, Stanley Gregory, Dub Martin, Elwood Seith, James Pearson, Mike Fulbright, Allen Beheler, Halbert Anderson and Earnest Whorley. Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church Building Fund in Bellmead.
