Laverna Morgan

Laverna Ruth Morgan, age 82, of Abbott, passed away late Tuesday evening, November 18, 2014 at Town Hall Estates in Arlington. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday November 24, 2014 at the Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West, with Rev. Terry McElrath officiating. Burial will follow at the Abbott Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Laverna was born December 15, 1931 in Tatum, NM the daughter of Lucinda Sennie (Kornegay) and Raishey Clifton Hallman Sr. She attended schools in Waco and graduated from Waco High School in 1948. On March 11, 1950 she was united in marriage to Morris Mason Morgan Sr. in Waco. He preceded her in death on December 23, 2005. Laverna worked for the Office of Thrift Supervision for many years until her retirement in 1995. She also worked for First Baptist Church in West, Waco Savings and Loan and Central Texas Savings and Loan. She was a member of Abbott Baptist Church. Laverna loved her family and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Laverna is also preceded in death by her parents; a son, Gary Morgan; two brothers, R. C. Hallman Jr. and Cloyce Hallman; and two sisters, Evalee Whitney and Iris Wilson. Survivors include a son, Morris M. Morgan Jr. and wife Stephanie of Mansfield; three grandchildren, Meredith Hobbs and husband Andy, Chad Morgan and wife Angela and Jared Morgan; six great grandchildren, Drew Hobbs, Lydia Morgan, Mattie Hobbs, Morgan Hobbs, Nate Morgan and Luke Morgan; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers are Morris Morgan Jr., Chad Morgan, Richard Duncan, David MacDonald, Brian Allen and Mike Whitney. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Abbott Cemetery Association.
