Larry Richards, age 59, of South Padre Island, formerly of Dallas, passed away early Friday, November 14, 2008 in Houston. A rosary will be recited 4:00 p.m. Sunday at Aderhold Funeral Chapel in West, led by Kim Jaska, with visitation to follow until 6:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 am Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West, with Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. Mr. Richards was born on January 18, 1949 in Dallas, the son of Billy G. and Wanda Jo (Speck) Richards. He attended school in Grand Prairie and graduated from Grand Prairie High School in 1967 and East Texas State University in 1977 with a Bachelor of Science Degree. He joined the United States Army and served in Germany. On December 27, 1975 he was united in marriage to Frances Marie Jaska in West. He worked in the construction industry and owned R. L. Richards Painting and Wallcovering in Dallas. They moved to South Padre Island where Larry and Fran were members of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Port Isabel. Larry opened Island Sports Cards, a sports cards and memorabilia shop on Padre Boulevard, where he met many friends. Larry loved all sports especially golf, baseball, basketball, football, and fishing. Larry was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity and served on the Planning and Zoning Committee for the City of South Padre Island. He is preceded in death by his father. Survivors include his beloved wife of 32 years, Fran Richards; one son, Trevor Richards and wife Tina of Frisco; one daughter, Vanessa Richards of Dallas; his mother, Wanda Moore of Denison; one sister, Lana McDaniel and husband Charles of Chappell Hill; two grandsons, Mason and Carter Richards; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers are Shawn Elliott, Ray Jaska, John Jaska, Joseph Jaska, Alan Langham and Kris Cooper. Memorials may be made to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society or the charity of your choice.
