Kenneth Gassaway

September 3, 1933 — October 22, 2013

Kenneth Earl Gassaway Sr., age 80 of Gholson, passed away early Tuesday morning, October 22, 2013 at his residence. Graveside services will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday at Gholson Cemetery, with Rev. James Stevens officiating. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Aderhold Funeral Home in West. Mr. Gassaway was born September 3, 1933 in Ross, the son of Adolph Allen and Florence (Cammack) Gassaway. He was a 1952 graduate of West High School. Kenneth served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. On January 3, 1952 he was united in marriage to Dorothy Marie Locklar in Ross. Kenneth was a dairy farmer for all of his life until he retired in 1996. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Gholson, and was also a member of RVOS Lodge #78 in West. Kenneth enjoyed working with his cattle, tending to his garden and spending time at the river. He was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan and loved watching all sports. Kenneth loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Kenneth is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Boyd Gassaway. Survivors include his loving wife of 60 years, Dorothy Gassaway of Gholson; two sons, Kenneth Gassaway Jr. and wife Rena and Keith Gassaway, all of Gholson; a daughter, Kathy Svrcek and husband Steve of West; a sister, Karlene Kilgo and husband Bill; grandchildren, Kevin Gassaway, Kyle Svrcek, Michael Gassaway, Chris Gassaway and Kodey Gassaway; seven great grandchildren; special friends, Elmo Clater, Aaron Ard and John Pullman; his dog, Blue Boy; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Fuzzy Friends or the American Heart Association.
