Kenneth Bernsen, age 81, of Temple, formerly of West, passed away early Saturday morning, August 27, 2016 at his residence. A rosary will be recited 6:00 p.m. Thursday at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West, followed by visitation until 8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 2, 2016 at the Church of the Visitation in Westphalia, with Rev. Edwin Kagoo as celebrant, assisted by Deacon Billy Wayne Smetana. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Wetphalia. Kenneth was born August 8, 1935 in the Barclay Community, the son of the late Ervin A. and Margaret (Boeselt) Bernsen. He attended the old Barclay School, Rosebud High School and later Arlington State College. He served his country with the United States Marine Corp in Japan during the Korean War. On July 13, 1963 he was united in marriage to Janice Kubala in Arlington. He was a farmer and also the owner and operator of Community Disposal Service in Conroe for many years until his retirement in 1984. Kenneth was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #6456 in Conroe. Kenneth enjoyed reading, restoring vehicles, taking care of his cattle, and being outdoors. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Survivors include his beloved wife of 53 years, Janice Bernsen of Temple; children, Jeff Bernsen and wife Karen of West and Audra Jaeger and husband Keith of Austin; a sister, Joan Scott; grandchildren, Matt, Cray and Madison Jaeger and Everett, Parker, Reagan and Katy Bernsen; mother-in-law, Josie Kubala; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Active pallbearers are Gerry Scott, Steve Scott, Paul Feidler, Trevor Lansdown, Bernard Boeselt, Gregory Clanton, Alfredo Bodillo and David Feidler. Honorary pallbearers are Al Buckholt, A.T. Voltin, Frank Reichardt, Horest Weaver, Lynn Clanton, Gregory Boeselt, Marvin Meyer and Edward Meyer. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mary's School Wish List.
