June Winter

June Padgett Winter, age 81, of Fort Worth, formerly of West, quietly passed into her Savior's loving arms Monday evening, March 15, 2010 at Bethesda Gardens Memory Care Unit of Fort Worth, where she had become part of the loving family of residents and staff since its opening in April 2009. Memorial services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 24, 2010 at the Gambrell Street Baptist Church in Ft. Worth, with Rev. Clyde Glasner officiating. Doris June Padgett was born June 10, 1928 in Cameron, the daughter of Otis and Evie (Willis) Padgett, the fifth of six children. She grew up in West and graduated from Aquilla High School in 1946. She was a member of the Aquilla girls basketball team that won the State Championship for three consecutive years 1944, 45, and 46. June worked as a telephone operator in West where she met the love of her life, Irwin Winter. They were married in Austin on September 29, 1950. He preceded her in death on December 8, 2006. June's passion was her husband, her family, and eventually her three grandsons. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved her church ministry of sharing tapes with the homebound at Gambrell Street Baptist Church where she and her husband Irwin were faithful members. Survivors include two siblings; Willis Padgett of Fort Worth and Betty Davis of Waco; her two daughters; Jennifer Zachary and husband Danny, and Rebecca Plunk and husband Dorsey, all of Fort Worth; her three grandsons; Cole Zachary, Joshua Plunk and Marshall Plunk; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, faithful friends and brothers and sisters in Christ. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Alpha Omega Hospice or to the Gambrell Street Baptist Church in memory of June.
