Julia Judy Fry Long

Julia "Judy" (Fry) Long, age 69, of Speegleville, passed away Wednesday, September 1, 2010 at her residence due to a stroke. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West, with Rev. Terry McElrath officiating. Burial will follow at Bold Springs Cemetery near West. Judy was born June 6, 1941 in Bellmead, the daughter of Clyde Charlie and Laura (Bradshaw) Fry. She lived with her family in Smithville, Texas during World War II and moved to Waco in 1946. Judy was educated in Waco, graduating from Waco High School in 1959 and Baylor University in 1963. After her graduation from Baylor, Judy married Orland Lee Long. They had two children, Ted Alan Long of Sugar Land and Janet who died in infancy. She was divorced in 1987. Judy taught high school math in Wichita Falls; Boulder, Colorado; and Tucson, Arizona for over thirty years. In Tucson, she completed a Masters of Education degree at Northern Arizona University in 1998. Judy retired from teaching in 2003 and returned to live in Texas to care for her aging mother. Judy enjoyed traveling, knitting, gardening, quilting, golf, camping, bicycling, running, bird watching, and watching baseball. But most of all, she enjoyed her grandkids. Judy was preceded in death by her parents; her infant daughter, Janet; and her sister, Charlotte Fry Hosie. Survivors include a son, Ted Alan Long and wife Christine of Sugar Land; a brother, John L. Fry and wife Marilyn of Keller; two grandchildren, Sydney Long and Travis Long; a step grandson, Alexander Cox; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers are David Hosie, Dirk Hosie, Mike Long, Jim Bahner, James McDuff and Robert Freedenfeld.
